Sustainability at Llwyn Onn Guest House and Glamping
At Llwyn Onn Guest House and Glamping, we are committed to sustainability and continually seek new ways to be environmentally friendly. Here are some of the measures we have implemented and the improvements we plan to make:
Current Sustainable Practices
• Recycling: We ask our guests to help us recycle by separating plastics, cardboard, cans, glass, and food waste.
• Energy Conservation: We encourage turning off lights and electrical products when not in use. Currently, 98% of our light bulbs are low energy, with the remaining bulbs to be changed soon.
• Reducing Plastic Waste: We have eliminated single-use plastic bottles in guest rooms and glamping areas.
• Fresh Milk: Instead of milk sachets, we provide fresh milk in reusable glass bottles.
• Towel Management: Towels are changed upon request, and washing is done only with full loads.
• Eco-friendly Cleaning: We use refillable cleaning products with no harsh chemicals.
• Sustainable Drying: Alpaca drying balls are used in place of single-use dryer sheets.
• Renewable Energy: Solar panels have been installed, more are needed to be fully sustainable.
• EV Charging: A zappi EV charger is available for electric cars, with a small charge for usage.
• Homegrown Flowers: Our breakfast tables are decorated with flowers from our cottage garden, grown using homemade compost enriched with alpaca manure.
• Rainwater Harvesting: We collect rainwater for irrigating our plants and seedlings.
Recent Enhancements in 2024
• Toiletries: Transitioned from single-use toiletries to refillable ones in one guest bedroom.
• Complimentary Biscuits: Replaced packaged biscuits with homemade, unpackaged biscuits in guest rooms.
• Celebration Decorations: Switched from plastic banners and balloons to paper balls and hessian banners in the glamping area.
Future Goals
• Jam and Marmalade: Plan to replace single-use jam and marmalade containers with small refillable bowls.
• Energy Efficiency: Change the remaining 2% of light bulbs to low energy.
• Toiletries: Extend refillable toiletries to the last three guest rooms.
Community Involvement and Recognition
• Plastic Free Community: We are part of the local “Plastic Free Community” and have received a silver award for our efforts.
• Litter Picking: We participate in a monthly litter pick in Betws-y-Coed.
• Silver Award: We have been awarded a silver award for plastic-free Yr Wyddfa business.
• Green Tourism Award: We are working towards joining the Green Tourism Award program.
