Hints and tips about camping.

This guide to camping will be updated from time to time.

Planning a camping trip

Camping is an excellent way to take a break from the set routines of everyday life. A camping break shouldn't only be looked upon as a cheap alternative to staying at a bed and breakfast. Many bad camping experiences could easily have been avoided with a little common sense and planning.

Location

Location is very important when it comes to setting up your tent. This guide may be helpful if you are new to camping and will give you some issues to think about before setting out.

Each tent is different, your first step should be to familiarise yourself with the manufacturers instructions.

You should pitch your Tents in a safe and sheltered place.

Wind and the weather

Find out what the prevailing wind direction is and set your Tent up in a way that the doors and/or vents are aligned along the wind direction. This will greatly increase the ventilation in your Tent and help you in your fight against condensation.

You will want to pitch your Tent evenly and secure your Tent as well as you possibly can. A lot can change overnight so even if the conditions are great as you pitch your Tent, you should always prepare for the worst. Knowing the Weather Conditions is a good first step.

When it is time to leave the campground, try to pack your gear dry. If you must pack it wet, be sure to spread it out to dry at home at your first opportunity to avoid mould and mildew.
